The Ethiopia Local Network has been active since 2018 and is currently led by Cordaid. Our vision is to cultivate a local network with active membership and strong internal and external linkages, with the goal of accelerating the development of professional agri-SMEs and farmer organisations.
Ethiopia BDS Roadmap
A Roadmap for the Improvement of Business Development Services for Farmer Organizations and Agricultural Enterprises in Ethiopia was developed in 2023.
Following this the AMEA and GIZ supported the establishment of the Ethiopian Business Advisory Service Providers Association (EBASPA) and subsequently as BDS Multi-Stakeholder Platform (MSP). This MSP reviews the Roadmap’s progress, with the first achievements being a coordinated BDS Market Assessment and a study on the Legal and Regulatory Landscape Impacting Business Development Services (BDS) and Business Advisory Service Providers (BASPs). National dialogues were supported which led to the crowding in of other initiatives and organizations. This has led to the start of a BDS Standards development process. AMEA and SNV are currently co-chairs of this Platform.
The MSP also acts as a Community of Practice. Ethiopia has also proved to be one of the most active Networks for generating learning. As a result a National BDS Learning Event was held during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2025.

ATI Agrihub – Scaling Agri-BDS in Ethiopia
Over three years, Ethiopia’s Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) achieved a breakthrough in business development services delivery—creating a tiered BDS model that generated exceptional returns while reaching over 1,200 agri-SMEs across four regions and twelve value chains. With an 18:1 ROI on revenue increases and 84:1 ROI on capital mobilized, the ATI AgriHub program demonstrates how strategic segmentation and diagnostic-led approaches can revolutionize SME support systems, delivering ETB 3.16 billion in finance access while creating sustainable employment across Ethiopia’s agricultural sector.
Scaling Agri-BDS in the Ethiopian Barley Value Chain | D2T2 ALE25
We continued the Ethiopian theme as we launched the IFC-Soufflet Ethiopia Case Study which documents the latest phase in IFC’s decade long support to the barley value chain. IFC’s Agribusiness Leadership Program was highly valued but it was the whole package of support that enabled the SMEs to rapidly grow their business.
