Local Networks
Benin
The Local Network in Benin was established in 2023 with the support of the Dutch Embassy in Benin. There are over 2 500 farmer organizations which vary considerably in terms of commodities produced and organizational maturity in Benin. AMEA seeks to enable all stakeholders, (including public, private, business development service providers and non-governmental organizations) to adopt a common language regarding the professionalization of farmer organizations and share best practices and tools in terms of supporting farmers organizations to access markets.
National BDS Platform
A BDS roadmap was developed in 2023 has been revised and refined. This Roadmap, intended for the future development and improvement of the Agri-BDS system in Benin, has three major goals:
To ensure the quality of infrastructure, staff and service delivery,
To enhance synergies by implementing a mechanism to foster coordination among existing business development service providers.
To achieve scale-up by sharing cost-effective approaches and programs across a wide range of agricultural producer organizations and SMEs.
The Roadmap served as a framework for the development of a strategic and operational plan for the National BDS platform, which was led by the National Chamber of Agriculture of Benin and the Directorate of Agricultural Advice, Innovation and Entrepreneurial Training (DCAIFE). The Platform has developed a 5 year Strategic Plan to support the development and structuring of service providers approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MAEP). This is expected to lead to standardization of tools, using ISO 18716, and certification of BDS providers.
